Typography for dummies

It is a shame that every student learning office software must go through a phase that resembles a three year old with a box of crayons, coloring everything in ways that don't make the documents readable or sensible.

One of my students has discovered color and images in Writer, and intends to apply them to everything, whether the text above them is readable or not. I hope to find some way to discourage this. Perhaps I should start grading assingments... But first I'd have to make a rubric and assignments to be graded.

Too much to write, read, etc... Not enough time between classes.

Edit:

So what I wanted to mention was I got a few books on Graphic Design and Typography that I'm running through in the hopes to boil down some advice for my students on fonts, styles, and such.

More info when I have it...
